𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | Lapu-Lapu City College (LLCC) delegates attended the 3-day LEAD (Leadership Empowerment Against DOPES) National Seminar-Workshop and Training Program on Drug Abuse Prevention and Education last February 15-17, 2024 at the Golden Prince Hotel, Cebu City, with the theme “We can. We must. Stay Away from Illegal Drugs” by the Association of Advocates Against Drug Addiction (A3D), Incorporated.

A3D Inc. invited different colleges and universities across the Philippines to attend the seminar-workshop training program. Among those who participated in the event were Dr. Anna Liza Apos-Ocaya, SAO Coordinator, and Vincent Jay G. Pagobo, the Pi-Thons’ Guild President and SSG BOD from Lapu-Lapu City College. Mrs. Portia B. Neri, SSG Adviser, assisted especially in setting up the school poster. Activities during the event included plenary talk sessions, group discussions, on-the-spot poster making contest, and school poster competition.

The 3-day event was hosted by Prof. Andrew S. Macalma, a Student Affairs and Services Practitioner and University Registrar of Saint Louis University in Baguio City, Dr. Henry G. Magat the Vice President of A3D, and Dr. Marcon R. Espino the secretary of A3D. Delegates from different colleges and universities were welcomed and acknowledged by the President and Treasurer of the A3D Inc., Dr. Adelaida C. Fronda and Dr. Marilou F. Cao, respectively. Plenary Talk Sessions followed where different topics related to Drug Abuse Prevention and Education (DAPE) were discussed by people in different agencies and fields like Dr. Johnny J. Yao Jr., the Supervising Education Program Specialist of CHED Regional Office VII, IA 3 Jonar V. Cuayzon, a MPMG Chief in Intelligence and Investigation Section of PDEA Regional Office VII, Mr. Lolito S. Belonguel, the Student Discipline Officer from University of San Carlos-Talamban Campus, Cebu City, Dr. Jera C. Armendarez, the Medical Officer IV of Non-Communicable Diseases Section of DOH Central Visayas Center for Health Development, Dr. Salve B. Goleta, a Clinical Psychologist Consultant of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime. Aside from being a host, Prof. Andrew S. Macalma was also one of the resource speakers during the event.

The delegates also actively participated in the different activities and contests prepared by the organizers of the event. LLCC delegates, Vincent Jay G. Pagobo, shared his creativity and drawing skills in the poster making contest and performed a declamation piece entitled “Hooked in Drugs”. Dr. Anna Liza Apos-Ocaya explains the different DAPE activities done at the school in advocating drug awareness through the school poster.

The event ended successfully as delegates were given a certificate of participation and read the pledge of commitment where they committed to be anti-illegal drug advocates, DAPE champions, and nation builders promoting the well-being of the community to sustain a peaceful, respectful, and caring society.
